Miranda House (MH), one of the premier women's institutions in Delhi University, is also one of the oldest. Set up in response to a demand for higher education for women, its foundation stone was laid by Edwina Mountbatten on March 7,1948. FACTS
Located within the Delhi University campus, Miranda House is built in warm red brick with cool and spacious verandahs. Its original design was by the architect Walter George, and the college shares architectural affinity with other colonial educational institutions of the country.
The students initiated the setting up of a college union and in 1969-70, Miranda House became the first women's college to join the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU).
Miranda House was one of the first colleges in the university to introduce courses in science. Initially classes were held in the university. Classes for B.Sc. (Gen) shifted to the college in 1963 and for the
Honours courses in 1971.
